“The calabash is the fruit of the calabash tree (crescentia cujete linnaeus), which grows all over Jamaica and other parts of the Caribbean and Central America. Calabash jewellery is made from the hard woody skin of the mature fruit. The Taino, the original inhabitants of Jamaica, used the ripened fruit to make bowls, cups and dippers.
