Kingston on the Edge Opens at Redbones June 18
Year four of Kingston on the Edge (KOTE) Art Festival opens on Friday, June 18, with a show and exhibition at Redbones.
The brainchild of a group of four young art lovers, the festival is an opportunity for artists, operators of venues and the general public to interact creatively, with a view to developing the tremendous artistic potential of Jamaica.
In its four years of life, KOTE has become an internationally known and respected event, numbering among its participants award winning artists from four different continents. It is, however, centred both physically and spiritually in the city of Kingston- with all its beauty and contradictions. This year in particular, the festival takes seriously its mission to expose the artistic gems and powerful community spirit so often buried beneath negativity.
Kingston on the Edge 2010 includes events as diverse as a theatre night, featuring some of Jamaica’s leading dramatists, dance workshops, concerts, visual art exhibitions, site specific performance art, among others. The beautiful venues and top-notch artwork, as well as the strong sense of togetherness, help to create the now famous KOTE “vibes”, which have to be experienced to be believed.
KOTE 2010 will run from June 18 to 26 at venues all across the city.
Admission to opening night is $1,000 and students with IDs paying $500.
